Observations in collaborative ontology editing using Collaborative Protégé

چکیده
Creation of an ontology according to some common plan is best accomplished collaboratively. This is sometimes contradicted by the distribution of the ontology’s developers. An obvious solution therefore is to build collaboration into ontology development tools. Such support necessarily includes both the technical means to perform editing operations upon an ontology, but also support for the communication that makes collaboration such a vital part of much ontology development. To investigate the distributed, collaborative ontology engineering process and the corresponding capabilities of the Collaborative Protege 3 (CP) tool, members of the OntoGenesis network came together and enriched the Ontology of Biomedical Investigations (OBI) with new content. The communications and interactions of the participants with each other, directly or through the tool, were tracked and analyzed. Our initial analysis of the degree to which this new tool fulfills the practical requirements of collaborative ontology engineering suggests the approach is promising. We present some observations and recommendations for CP based upon this

The Effects of Collaborative and Individual Output Tasks on Learning English Collocations
One of the most problematic areas in foreign language learning is collocation. It is often seen as arbitrary and an overwhelming obstacle to the achievement of nativelike fluency. Current second language (L2) instruction research has encouraged the use of collaborative output tasks in L2 classrooms. This study examined the effects of two types of output tasks (editing and cloze) on the learni...
متن کاملCollaborative Output Tasks and their Effects on Learning English Comparative Adjectives
This study aimed to examine the effect of two types of collaborative output tasks on Iranian EFL learners’ comparative adjectives with two or more syllables. Thirty Iranian EFL learners participated in this study which were then divided into two experimental and one control groups; one experimental group received dictogloss task in 4-pairs and the other experimental group was given text reconst...
متن کاملVisualizing User Editing Behavior in Collaborative Ontology-engineering Projects
Over the last decade, ontologies have become the mainstay in the biomedical domain. Their size and complexity, as well as, the required expert domain knowledge to create these ontologies have increased significantly. In addition, many projects resort to collaborative approaches for building these ontologies, using the Internet as a cooperation platform. While online collaborative projects have ...
متن کاملCollaborative Protege
We present an extension of the existing Protégé system that supports collaborative ontology editing. The extended system—Collaborative Protégé—is currently available as a prototype. In addition to the common ontology editing operations, it enables annotation of both ontology components and ontology changes. It supports the searching and filtering of user annotations based on different criteria....
متن کاملThe Comparative Effect of Task Type and Learning Conditions on the Achievement of Specific Target Forms
The completion mode (individual, collaborative) of the tasks and the conditions under which these modes are performed have been reported to play an important role in language learning. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of employing text editing tasks performed both individually and collaboratively, on the achievement of English grammar under explicit and implicit learning condi...
